Description
Bamboo rice is a short, round grain rice infused with bamboo extract. Its milled with bamboo shoots, which gives the rice a pale green colour. Rich in B-vitamins and antioxidants, its a unique addition to your store cupboard.
Bamboo rice has a subtle flavour with delicate herbal notes. Its wonderful in rice salads or served as a side dish for satay and stir fries. Sabarot recommends adding avocado, cucumber and red onion to the cooled rice. Dress with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar and serve chilled.
Once cooked, bamboo rice has a moist texture similar to sticky rice. For this reason, its perfect for making sushi and onigiri. You can even use it to make risotto. Add green curry paste and coconut milk for a Thai twist on the classic Italian dish.
Preparation: Bring the rice to a boil in twice its volume of water. Cover and cook until the water is completely absorbed (approximately 15-20 minutes).
Store in a cool, dry place.
