Nuri sardines in olive oil with spices are a Portuguese classic, loved for their rich flavour. Nuri hand picks the sardines to make sure only the best make it to the tin. The sardines are then canned with olive oil, salt, cloves and chilli. The result is sardines with a gentle heat. Serve the sardines on buttered bread for a simple starter, or enjoy with olives as part of an antipasti spread.
Nuri is one of the oldest and most iconic brands of Portuguese tinned fish. The name Nuri comes from the Arabic word for my light, and this is what a customer exclaimed when they first saw the shiny sardines in the tin. The artisanal production process is steeped in tradition, with 37 steps required to produce a single Nuri tin.
