Unlike the sickly-sweet marzipan were more familiar with in the UK, Carstens marzipan is delicately nutty and aromatic. Its made with a higher ratio of ground almonds to sugar than were used to, which gives Carstens marzipan a lighter texture and its coveted flavour.

Carstens marzipan is made in Lbeck, a city to the north east of Hamburg. The Carstens Lbecker Marzipan Company was founded in 1865, and their marzipan was so sought-after that Carstens were named the imperial supplier of marzipan to the court of Emperor Wilhelm I. Carstens spent the next 100 years perfecting their craft. Then, in 1996, Carstens Lbecker marzipan gained protected designation of origin (PDO) status.

Ingredients: sugar, ground almonds (38%), cocoa mass, water, cocoa butter, emulsifier: lecithins (soy), humectant: invertase. May contain hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios, wheat, barley, milk products and egg.
